All My Reading Goals for 2023
Hello everyone! I am so excited about today's post because I will be discussing all my reading goals for 2023! I absolutely love setting goals, seeing my progress in them, and even sometimes completing them. I also love having some kind of structure for my year ahead of time, especially regarding my reading adventures. I do hope that this post may give you some inspiration for your 2023 reading year!
Let's get into the goals...
Make Reading Fun
Sometimes, as a bookish content creator and an anxious person, I tend to put pressure on myself to finish certain books, finish a certain amount of books, or just make reading more of a chore than a hobby. This (obviously) has negative consequences because then guess what happens? Reading slumps! So, in 2023 I really want to break that habit, and just focus on enjoying reading, and not putting pressure on myself. This leads me to my next goal...
Quality over Quantity
As I mentioned in the last goal, sometimes I pressure myself on reading a certain number of books instead of just enjoying reading. Not in 2023 though! I want to truly embrace the mood reader inside of me and just read books I'll enjoy, and enjoy books instead of racing through them to meet a certain number. Now! This doesn't mean I will not be participating in the Goodreads yearly reading challenge, because I am. It just means I won't focus on the numbers as much as the quality of the books I'm reading.
Read 70 Books
This year I set my Goodreads yearly reading challenge to 60, and I completed it! (Yay me!) So, I thought it would be fun to increase it a little bit to challenge myself. So, I decided 70 was a good number. 70 is a little bit more than one book a week, which I think is reasonable considering the readathons I participate in! So, good luck to me on this one...
Finish Out Series
So, for some reason, and an ongoing issue in my reading career, I have trouble finishing series. I have no idea why, but you know what? It's okay, and I'm not the only one. I'm not sure how many series I have started, but I do know that I want to complete many if not all (probably not all) this year! I think I can do it, but we'll see what happens.
Do More Readathons
I absolutely love readathons. Reading for 24 hours? Sign me up. However, I tend to never do them. It's not that I don't have the time. I frequently have breaks from school or empty weekends. For some reason, they just don't happen. I think I did 3 this year. I don't have a specific number I want to do, I just want to do more because I love doing them, and who wouldn't want to read more books?
Read Outside of My Comfort Zone
I always tend to gravitate toward fantasy and romance when I am picking out my next read, but I would really like to switch that up this year. I don't mean completely going cold turkey on them, I'm still going to read my fair share. But, I would love to explore new genres and new types of books that are out there, because there are so many! I have recently discovered I have a love for literary fiction, yet I read maybe 2-3 a year. Same with mystery/horror. So, this year I really look forward to going on a journey I guess you could say, through some different genres!
Read From My Shelves
This year, I bought way more books than I probably could ever read. So, this year I think it's time to make a dent in my physical TBR by dedicating myself to reading from my shelves. This does not mean I won't still be buying books, I definitely will! Retail therapy is definitely one of my main coping mechanisms. I also love to buy new releases! I just want to make it a point to look to my shelves instead of Barnes & Noble when looking for my next read!
Keep Up With New Releases
To be completely honest, I was terrible at keeping up with new releases this year, and I would really like to remedy that. Goodreads even sends me emails that talk about new releases as does Barnes & Nobles! I think it would be really easy, I just need to get in the habit of checking out and reading new releases. And, some fantastic books are coming out this year, but some of my favorite authors. You better believe I am not missing those.
Reach out To More Publishers
This year I was so fortunate to be a part of two publishers' influencer campaigns, and receive a few ARCs! I love receiving ARCs because I get to read & review them early so all my readers can find their next read! I also love being involved with publishers, because when I graduate, I want to work in the publishing industry. So, in 2023 I would love to be able to work with more publishers and be a bigger part of the book blogging community. But, to do that, I have to reach out!
Start A Book Instagram
This year I really want to get out of my comfort zone and explore a new social media platform! As of now I only have the blog and my Pinterest, but I would love to create a bookstagram! Hopefully, I can have it up and running by the end of January! (crossing my fingers, because I am a major procrastinator)
Create a Reading & Posting Routine
And we are finally at my last goal! I am a creature of habit and routine at heart, so having a good routine for everything makes things a lot easier for me. So, in 2023 I really want to work on, not only having a reading routine but a posting routine as well. This year, to be completely honest, I was pretty bad with staying consistent with a posting schedule both on here and on Pinterest, and I really want to work on that in 2023. I also think it would be super beneficial for me to have a reading routine to just read as much as I can and optimize my free time.
Alright, that is all! I love setting goals, and sharing them, so I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did. At least one of these goals will probably remain uncompleted by this time next year, but that is completely okay. Thank you so much for reading, and comment some of your goals, whether it be reading or whatever, for 2023! Make sure to like, share, and subscribe to the newsletter. See you next time!
Xoxo,
Opal
